No lifting of campfire ban

The South East Fire Centre is not considering lifting the campfire ban, despite the rain over the weekend.

Fire Information Officer Fanny Bernard says most areas had between 5mm and 10mm of rain and others had hardly any.

She says even 10 mm of rain does little to penetrate the forest floor and we have two weeks of hot, dry weather to come in the forecast.

The recent rain did ease things on the Sitkum-Duhamel fire near Nelson.

It is now 90% contained and the Area Restriction Order has been lifted.
