Update: Ward Street Place reno’s

The modernization of vital supportive housing in Nelson was born out of a very serious event.

Nelson Cares Society has been showing off the first phase of their ambitious $3 million restoration of Ward Street Place.

Chair Ron Little says they had to upgrade the 100-year old building after the big fire just across the street in 2011.


Upgrades included fire protection and electrical.

The society has formally thanked the feds, province and Columbia Basin Trust for over $700, 000 in funding.

That helped create eleven new rental units at Ward Street Place and for upgrades to the new “stepping stones” emergency shelter.

More renovations are planned in future.
