Wildfire smoke from States

The South East Fire Centre says smoke in our region is not coming from BC wildfires.

There are currently no new fires that would create the sort of smoke we’ve been seeing.

The thick air is a result of the blazes as far away as California along with Oregon and Washington.

Meanwhile provincial ecologists are letting a group of five fires in the back country east of Riondel and
Boswell keep burning.

They figure these fires east of Kootenay Lake may actually help promote bio-diversity in the area.
