New cables ferries for our region

Three of our local cable ferries are to be replaced with new ones.

The Arrow Park, Glade and Harrop vessels are getting old and bidders will be sought to build ferries that can handle more traffic.

Local RDCK director Ramona Faust says the planned 24-vehicle ferry is good news for Harrop but she’ll be asking the Ministry of Transportation if they can consider going even bigger in light of anticipated build-out of various sub-divisions.

The current Harrop ferry – upgraded in the early 1990’s – can handle a maximum of 50 passengers when the school bus is aboard whereas the new one would handle 100 people.
