Postal workers looking to preserve jobs

Local postal workers are repeating a call to the federal government to introduce “postal banking” as a way of preserving jobs and keeping the service competitive.

This in light of the roll-out of the conversion process to community mail boxes in Nelson.

They will be installed next year after a period of public consultation.

The union calls the end to door-to-door delivery an erosion of a public service.

They’re demanding the feds allow banking across its huge network of offices to compete with the pay-day loan sector.
