Almost 300 evacuated from Rock Creek wildfire

About 300 tourists and residents evacuated from Rock Creek moved to a reception centre at the Midway Community Hall.

Residents on the Highway 33 corridor were taken to the Kelowna Salvation Army on Sutherland Road.

The Lumby reception centre for Christian Valley evacuees is Whiteville Community Centre.

270 homes have been evacuated to this point.

John Maclean with the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary says it was a challenging night.

The RCMP is patrolling evacuated areas to ensure safety and security.
