Wildfire growth eases

The Rock Creek wildfire in the West Boundary has destroyed 30 homes.

11 additional structures were lost as the aggressive blaze swept across a large area Thursday and Friday near where highway 3 and 33 meet.

Only yesterday were officials able to more accurately measure the fire at 3,750 hectares.

Fire information officer Jordan Turner says not much growth has occured since those first 24 hours.

The fire is not contained.

High winds at the start of the suspected human-caused blaze made it spread so quickly.

Highway 3 has re-opened.

But highway 33 is still closed.

Over 300 homes were initially evacuated although 88 homes and businesses have now been downgraded to an evacuation alert.

Crews continue to focus on structural protection and strengthening containment lines.
