UPDATED: More residents returning home in Rock Creek

More residents in the immediate Rock Creek area are returning to their homes.

The RDKB’s Alan Stanley says many more people people are no longer on an evacuation order as crews continue to deal with the large wildfire.

BC Wildfire Service says there has been some more growth in the fire but not in any particular direction and they’re expecting to update that total size this afternoon.

Protecting homes in the rural areas up the valleys to the north remains a priority as does working on re-opening Highway 33.

The Red Cross has now converted their operations at the Midway Community hall to a Resilience Centre offering emergency help to those who’ve been evacuated or who have lost their home.

NB– an earlier report to us from RCMP of fresh evacuations ordered on Nicolson Creek Road is not correct. The Emergency Operations Centre has confirmed that this road is NOT under an Evacuation Order.
