Stay calm and be prepared for Stickpin wildfire

Residents of Grand Forks and Christina Lake are being told to be alert and prepare for possible evacuations because of the huge Stickpin wildfire in the US.

The 41,000 acre fire could move further north and is around 6-km away.

There are no evacuation alerts at this time.

The regional district and BC Wildfire Service hosted well-attended public meetings Thursday night.

The RDKB’s Alan Stanley says the key message is that people have time to go online and check out how to prepare to move out if necessary.

If necessary the evacuation route for Grand Forks and Christina Lake residents would be east to Trail where reception operations are ready.

The western route is already compromised by the Rock Creek fire.

Also if there were evacuations the US fire would be coming from the south west cutting off any movement in that direction.
