Monday update:Stickpin fire edges closer to border

The huge Stickpin wildfire burning south of the Boundary in Washington state has crept closer.

It is now about 5 km from the border. It was 6 km away for most of last week.

Grand Forks and Christina Lake residents are on standby for any possible evacuation alerts. However there are no evacuation alerts at this stage.

BC Fire Information Officer Mike McCulley says there are southerly winds but they remain slight.

There is now a crew of 33 BC firefighters assigned to the north west flank of the 19,000 ha blaze.
