Smoky skies pose high health risks

Stay indoors if you can and avoid strenuous activity.

That’s the word from Interior Health’s Medical Health Officer as we’re stuck with all this wildfire smoke for at least a few more days.

Grand Forks especially is at a very high health risk rating.

The air quality index goes from 1 to 10 and it has been up to 16.

But the rest of the West Kootenay is also at a high risk.

Dr. Kamran Golmohammadi says the smoke isn’t lethal but it’s a concern.

He says there is no evidence to suggest walking around with a face mask on will be helpful.
