Nelson has been chosen as a designated community for an important national homeless count early next year.
Councillor Michael Dailly, who chairs the Homelessness Committee, says the feds will fund the point-in-time homeless count.
Scores of volunteers working with the social service sector will be involved.
Nelson is one of 60 communities from across the nation chosen for the project.
Dailly says the data should help secure provincial and federal support for the issue.
