Trail to use property assessment for bridge tax

Trail will not be using a parcel tax to pay for it’s portion of the pipe/pedestrian bridge over the Columbia River.

CAO David Perehudoff says it will be based on property assessments to help fund their portion of the $7.2 million pipe crossing piece.

The exact tax implication has not yet been spelled out by Trail. A public consultation meeting will be held at city hall at 4 pm on Thursday.

Perehudoff says the contract they’ve signed with a contractor offers best value for the overall $15.5 million bridge which also includes Trail paying $7.5 million for the walkway part which does not involve a tax increase.

He doesn’t anticipate much resistance from the public.

The city of Rossland will use a parcel tax to pay for their share of the sewer portion.
