Thursday’s public consultation meeting in Trail regarding the pipe pedestrian bridge was well received for the most part.
The small council chambers were packed but the majority appeared to be in support of getting on with the $14.5 million project.
However about a third of those who attended were against. Trail resident Norm Gabana has been a vocal opponent for some time.
Mayor Mike Martin didn’t anticipate there would be a large amount of community opposition.
The owner of a $183,000 property in Trail will pay $31.50 a year for the 25 year borrowing term to cover the sewer pipe portion.
As for the other regional sewer partners, Rossland and Warfield will impose a parcel tax to cover their share of the pipe.
Rossland taxpayers face a $57 tax hike while Warfield property owners will pay $47 a year.
Warfield had a public meeting Thursday night while Rossland’s goes from 4 pm till 7 pm Friday.
