The West Kootenay Eco Society says the Government is effectively exempting ski resorts like Jumbo from proper environmental assessment.
Executive Director David Reid is reacting to an order from the Minister signed off Monday to remove the requirement for an environmental assessment for natural gas processing plants and ski and all-season resorts.
The Jumbo Developer will no longer need a new certificate once it’s extension expires in October.
It received environmental approval in 2004.
Government made the changes to prevent undue delays to natural gas and resort development saying the Minister can still order an environmental review if need be.
