Fund-raising, church groups and corporate sponsorship can help boost immigration into our local communities.
But there must also be a change of heart at the federal level .
This from Silverton’s Leah Main who is our region’s rep on the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) Â when it comes to helping families re-settle from Syria and Africa.
Main says it takes about $30,000 to support a family in its first year in Canada and the Feds should be helping.
She notes the FCM is creating a task force to work with the Feds, provinces and local government to boost sponsorship options for immigration.
