Fired local care aid stood up for his principles

A Grand Forks care aid who was fired by Interior Health says he had to stand up for his principles.

Arnold Hoekstra refused to have the flu shot this winter saying he doesn’t believe in the vaccination.

And he believes the alternative of wearing a mask – beyond the need to have it for short-term isolation reasons – also isn’t healthy.

Hoekstra – who has worked in the health care field for over twenty years – went through several disciplinary hearings before losing his job.

80% of health care workers in BC complied with new mandatory regulations of having a flu shot while the rest wore masks.
