Local woman to receive Courage to Come Back Award

Being paralyzed in her late 20s wasn’t going to stop a Castlegar woman from getting back on her feet.

That is why Kris Stanbra – who is now 62 – is being celebrated with the Coast Mental Heath’s “Courage to Come Back” Award.

After taking years to learn to walk with a cane, she became an advocate for community accessibility sat on provincial boards and worked with celebrity paralympian Rick Hansen.

Stanbra admits she is slowing down at the age of 62 but she’s not stopping…she now has a four wheel scooter.

She’ll be honoured at a ceremony in Vancouver May 8th.
