No word yet from Teck Trail Operations on how any local job cuts will unfold.
This after last month’s announcement of the need for a 5% global staffing reduction across the company.
Armindo De Medeiros – the President of United Steelworkers Local 480 – figures any impact will be minimal.
That’s because up to 60 of the estimated 80 job cuts to be made in Trail are already accounted for with planned retirements.
He says there are quite a few employees who are in their 60’s but don’t have the 30 years service to get full pension.
