Worker camp development progressing

Plans for seasonal worker camps in the Creston Valley are coming together.

A group looking to develop temporary work camps is negotiating with a couple of interested Creston area landowners.

Spokesperson Deb Nelius says they need to accommodate about 150 fruit pickers, who would ideally be spread throughout the Creston Valley.

Nelius says the push is on to get the camps built as cherry harvest season will likely happen in the 2nd week of July, earlier than usual.

The group has asked Creston area landowners to offer up a section of their acreage to be developed into work camps.
