UPDATE: Gilpin wildfire grows to 224 hectares

The two wildfires burning along Highway 3 in the Boundary are under investigation.

Wildfire crews and local fire departments have been tackling the blazes in the Gilpin area and near Christina Lake.

The Gilpin blaze was measured at 224 hectares late Tuesday. The other fire was largely under control.

Here’s Karlie Shaughnessy with the South East Fire Centre.

The fires were reported around noon Tuesday.

The Gilpin blaze has required air tanker and helicopter support.

74 fire fighters from the South East Fire Centre are on scene.

The current danger rating in the very dry Boundary area is rated as “high” to “extreme”.
