Gilpin wildfire 40% contained

There’s been further progress on the Gilpin Grassland Wildfire near Grand Forks.

It started Tuesday afternoon.

It was measured at 224 hectares and was 25% contained at the start of Wednesday.

But Karlie Shaughnessy with the South East Fire Centre says things are looking even better.

There is now a public access restriction along the Gilpin Forest Service Road.

The road is used for recreation but that is off limits.

Details of that restriction can be found on the BC Wildfire Service website.

Shaughnessy says some of the 60-plus crew may be stood down today.
