Mixed reaction from SD 8 to new rural schools funding

Cautious optimism from SD 8 on the government’s new funding for rural schools earmarked for possible closure.

Kootenay Lake Superintendent Jeff Jones says at first glance it appears positive.

It funds rural schools that are a community focal point and offer specific grades in that area.

But Jones is asking where this new money will come from and what needs to happen to support it.


The government says Winlaw and Yahk schools would qualify.

Jones says it’s up to the board to determine which schools would be selected to apply for the funding.
