West Arm Park to be part of wider wildfire plan

BC Parks is working with the city of Nelson and Areas E and F on a wider landscape plan to mitigate wildfire risk in and around West Arm Provincial Park.

Here’s Amanda Weber-Roy a conservation specialist for BC Parks.

The plans will incorporate fuel management data and information from a 2010 draft plan that was not finalized.

The work will respect watersheds and Weber-Roy says efforts will be made to ensure minimal impact to wildlife in the area such as caribou and grizzlies.

Nelson and neighboring regional district areas are also part of the collective effort to create wildfire mitigation corridors on the various at-risk flanks of the city.
