Friday lockout of Canada Post employees likely

A lockout of Canada Post employees could happen Friday.

This as they have yet to agree to a new deal with the Canadian Union Of Postal Workers.

Nelson CUP-W President Brenda Muscoby-Yanke says a main issue at the bargaining table is equality.

She says rural mail carriers who are predominantly women are paid 28% less than urban carriers who are mainly male.

Muscoby-Yanke says she isn’t sure exactly how a lockout will impact mail service.

But she anticipates Canada Post could reduce hours or days of work for employees to try to provoke a strike before a lockout happens.
