Homelessness committee releases annual report card

Homelessness is a reality in Nelson that can impact everyone.

The Nelson Committee On Homelessness has released their annual report card which features data collected through a point in time count and survey conducted in April.

The count showed 116 people were experiencing homelessness to some degree.

Coordinator Ann Harvey says increasing rental rates and the cost of living are hindering efforts to properly house the homeless.

She says a near 0% vacancy for rentals is also a factor as a healthy rate is considered to be 3%.
