Group requests help to feed orchard workers

Privately organised efforts to provide a daily meal for this year’s Creston fruit pickers have met challenging demands.

The Creston Valley Orchard Workers Support Group fed upwards of 200 people yesterday, compared to 60 earlier this week.

Miguel is from Mexico and working at a local cherry orchard.

He says about 100 pickers are at his camp and conditions aren’t good.

The group is covering costs themselves and asking others to donate food or cash.
