Street collaborative tops $81,000 for outreach team

A group in Nelson appears to be well on its way to hiring two street outreach workers.

Rona Park of the street culture collaborative says they’ve raised over $81,000 so far.

But they need $100,000 before they can put together a team to start in September, and have asked the city to contribute $10,000.

Park says she’s glad city council put off adopting a panhandling bylaw until at least next year.

She thinks it would’ve sent the wrong message and the outreach team may be able to address the same issues.
