Probes of local police shootings 90% complete

Investigations into two fatal police shootings in our area are nearing completion.

Peter DeGroot was shot outside Slocan in 2014 and Waylon Edey was shot on the Kinnaird bridge in early 2015.

They’re now two of the three oldest cases still on the books with the BC Independent Investigations Office.

Marten Youssef with the IIO agrees it’s taking too long.

The IIO has 56 open cases across BC.

Both the DeGroot and Edey investigations are considered about 90 per cent complete.
