Kootenay Lake residents refute ferry terminal study

Queens bay and Balfour residents have produced a scathing critique of a government-commissioned study.

It’s a rebuttal of an SNC Lavalin report on the future of the Kootenay Lake ferry’s western terminal.

The consultant concluded moving the terminal from Balfour to Queens Bay is a good idea.

But John Betts of the Queens Bay Residents Association says they’ve poked holes in that argument.

Betts says they believe a move to Queens Bay could cost twice the $30-to-50 million dollar estimate.

Other concerns range from slope stability to the practicality of using a barge as a back-up ferry.

The public consultation period has been extended to October.

But Betts says the Ministry of Transportation has so far declined to meet with their group.
