Local man gets 90 days in animal cruelty case

A local man accused of animal cruelty has been sentenced.

Joao Vieira will serve 90 days in jail intermittently.

He also received three years probation after pleading guilty to breaching a previous order.

The crown then stayed two animal cruelty counts.

He was charged after the SPCA seized 29 animals from his Winlaw property early this year.

The agency said the animals were kept in overcrowded and inadequate conditions.

They included sheep, goats, horses, large-breed dogs, puppies, a cow, and a rooster.
