Civic Theatre a finalist in This Place Matters

Nelson’s Civic Theatre is one of nine organizations in Canada in the National Trust’s This Place Matters competition.

The winner getsĀ $40,000.

Theatre Society executive director Eleanor Stacey says they want to restore and reanimate their historic stage.

Stacey says the first thing to be fixed is the theatre’s ancient and aching screen.

It’s dangerous, expensive to maintain, and takes up to four hours to drag up or down.
