Sister sues RCMP over Peter de Groot shooting

The sister of a man shot and killed near Slocan is now suing over his death.

According to Vancouver media, Danna de Groot filed a statement of claim this week against the RCMP.

She’s alleging negligence in the death of her brother Peter, who died two years ago this month.

She claims that contrary to what police told the public they fired the first shot in the confrontation and says police refused to accept her advice about bringing the incident to a peaceful conclusion.

She claims police killed her brother without trying to de-escalate the situation.

She wants a judge to declare her brother’s charter rights to life and security of person were violated.

None of the allegations have been proved in court and the RCMP have not yet filed a statement of defence.
