Boater missing on Slocan Lake

A search is underway for a 60-year-old man missing on Slocan Lake.

RCMP say he left his home in the Evans Creek area about 7:30 p.m. last night in a 14-foot aluminum boat with his dog.

He should have returned in 15 minutes, but didn’t. The dog could be heard barking.

Search and rescue and the New Denver fire department began searching the lake and found the boat and dog this morning on the lake’s west shore.

Search efforts continue to find the man.

Although police haven’t named him, he’s described as about five-foot-seven, thin with gray hair and a gray beard. He was last seen wearing a yellow jacket and back pack.

Anyone with information is asked to contact RCMP at 250-358-2222.
