Seniors parking passes going up to $90

Nelson is tripling the cost of seniors parking passes from $30 to $90 a year.

City councillor Michael Dailly acknowledges the move won’t be popular.

Dailly says they considered doing away with the passes altogether but decided to charge more instead.

It’s one of several ways the city is trying to increase revenue while minimizing taxes.

The went from $20 to $30 in 2015.

The number of passes sold increased from 363 in 2010 to 646 in 2016.
