UPDATED: Nelson boil notice rescinded

The City of Nelson has rescinded a boil water notice and replaced it with a water quality advisory.

The city said in a news release that it’s no longer necessary for the majority of people to boil water prior to consumption.

Recent heavy rain and runoff has resulted in high cloudiness levels in the city’s surface water source, which could hinder the effectiveness of the disinfection treatment system.

This could cause intestinal illness in people with weak immune systems. Residents may still choose to boil their water or use bottled water.

The city issued the boil notice after one unit of fecal coliform was found in a sample Tuesday.

However, They believe an error may have occurred in the sampling and the advisory was issued as a precaution.
