Bear shreds tent on Nelson beach

A bear scare for a couple of campers in Nelson who had set up at Red Sands Beach.

The police department says when the campers returned to their tent Thursday night they found it had been shredded and some of their personal belongings were also destroyed. They say they saw a bear nearby.

The police department is reminding the public this is bear season and any food ,waste or garbage is going to attract wild animals.

Also a reminder that camping is illegal anywhere in Nelson except for the official city campground.
