No back-tracking on Nelson handicapped parking rules

Nelson council is sticking with it’s recent changes on handicapped parking.

Permit holders will continue to get free parking at designated stalls but for a maximum of two hours or the time limit on a regular metered stall.

Acting Mayor Valerie Warmington says it’s a challenge to balance all motorist’s needs and there are more permit holders these days.

Concerns have been raised that some handicapped drivers need more than two hours. Those people can apply for a special exemption.

The new handicapped parking time limits will be reviewed in the fall as part of a wider parking strategy.
