City payroll hit $10.8 million in 2016

The City of Nelson’s payroll went up about 1.8 per cent last year compared to 2015.

According to its statement of financial information, the city paid $10.8 million in salaries.

Forty-four employees made more than $75,000 and of them 22 made more than $100,000.

In 2015, 20 employees made more than $100,000 and in 2014, 17 topped that figure.

That includes Nelson Hydro and the fire department but not the police department.

Top earners were city manager Kevin Cormack and Nelson Hydro general manager Alex Love.

Each made about $190,000 including expenses.

City council’s collective pay of $152,000 was unchanged from the previous year.

But their expenses of $36,000 was up from $30,000 in 2015.
