UPDATED: Council rejects fee reduction for cannabis dispensaries

Nelson city council has turned down two cannabis dispensaries seeking a break on business license fees.

Mayor Deb Kozak says they declined to reduce the $5,000 fee and make other adjustments.

Philip McMillan of the non-profit Nelson Compassion Club which isn’t sure what he’ll do now.

The club also asked to be exempted from various security and staffing requirements.

The Kootenays Medicine Tree applied unsuccessfully for a reduced fee as well.

Council previously approved five dispensary licenses.

Tonight they also granted a license to Canna Clinic which now fully complies with the by-law.
