The Nelson Police Board will pick up part of a former officer’s legal fees.
The board has reached a settlement with former constable Drew Turner.
He was convicted in 2015 of assaulting a woman and subsequently resigned from the department.
The police board then asked him to reimburse them for his legal fees although the amount has never been disclosed.
The board says terms of the settlement are confidential.
But chair Deb Kozak confirms Turner will not pay the entire bill.
