Nelson’s U18 girls soccer team fell 2-0 to Prince George in the final of the Provincial B cup in Surrey today.
The Nelson side held the play in the first half and had its best chance at the 37-minute mark, when Shianne Michalchuk made some moves through the middle and placed a pass to Jodi Surina just inside the box, who hammered the crossbar.
Fifteen minutes into the second half, a rare defensive miscue by Nelson resulted in a Prince George goal.
Nelson then had to press for a goal, moving star defender Maia Ida up to striker to try for the equalizer. However, the Prince George defense held strong and limited any chances.
Prince George scored their second goal 42 minutes in on a play that started from a corner kick.
Coach Chuck Bennett notes it’s the third year in a row the team has finished second.
Meanwhile, the Nelson U16s finished sixth and the Nelson U13s finished fifth.
