Community “dodges bullet” with log fire:Fire Chief

Nelson’s fire chief says we got lucky after a burning log was found in the bush Tuesday night.

Len MacCharles says he and an on duty officer responded to a report of a smell of smoke in the Mountain Station area.

After searching around homes they narrowed the smell to a little-used trail.

He figures a discarded cigarette or other smoking material may have caused the fire.

He’s applauding the local resident for being alert to the smell of smoke and calling it in.
