Nelson’s fire chief flew over the Harrop Creek wildfire Tuesday.
Len MacCharles is reassuring us that while the smoke looks ominous it’s still well away from any communities.
MacCharles says based on the flyover there’s no need to panic.
MacCharles says the 650-hectare fire isn’t threatening the five mile watershed either.
Meanwhile, the regional district director for Harrop and Procter says residents have mixed emotions about the fire.
Ramona Faust says while no one is panicking it’s an unsettling atmosphere.
Faust says some are happy crews are now tackling the blaze but others wonder why more wasn’t done earlier.
She adds it brings back memories of the Kutetl fire that burned over 7,500 hectares in 2003.
