Nelson city council has approved temporary use permits for five cannabis dispensaries.
Mayor Deb Kozak says it lets them keep operating despite being too close to each other to satisfy a bylaw.
The feds plan to legalize marijuana next year but have not indicated that they’ll allow dispensaries.
Council voted five to two in favour of allowing the permits tonight.
A sixth dispensary doesn’t need a temporary use permit because it meets the by-law conditions while a seventh hasn’t yet applied.
