The strong smell from the start-up process of the Zellstoff Celgar pulp mill in Castlegar has been detected far and wide.
The company’s Environmental Manager Vanessa Benwood says they need to do chemical balancing following the 10 to 12 day shut down.
It may smell bad but she says this is not harmful to the public and this is well within ministry levels.
The mill was set to start Thursday afternoon and Benwood says the smell would improve over the next day or so.
