Church should lead ‘economic justice’ dialogue: mayor

Nelson’s mayor says she appreciates concerns raised by the United Church.

But Deb Kozak thinks council is already tackling some of the points they recently raised.

The church wants the city’s help starting a public dialogue on what they call “economic justice.”

Kozak also says she thinks it would be helpful for the church and business community to talk directly.

The church is concerned about housing affordability and income disparities in Nelson.

Their call was prompted partly by a full page ad from downtown businesses.

They worry it points to an erosion in community values.
