Nelson police say a 57-year-old Slocan man died in a single-vehicle crash early this morning just east of the Highway 3A/6 and Government Road intersection.
He was the lone occupant of a black eastbound SUV. His name has not been released.
The vehicle crossed the westbound lane before colliding with the rock embankment. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The fire department says the jaws of life was required.
It happened about 1:10 a.m.
The road was closed from about 1 until 6 a.m as an RCMP traffic reconstructionist investigated the scene.
Alcohol is not considered a factor.
The Nelson Police Department, RCMP Traffic Services and the BC Coroners Service continue to investigate.
