Forest fires chased tourists away from Nelson this year.
Visitor centre manager Val Yowek says while June’s figures were the same as 2016, they were down 10 to 12 per cent between July and September.
But it wasn’t all bad news.
Yowek says about 11,000 people came through the visitor centre July to September.
