Nelson rec task force makes 26 recommendations

Nelson’s recreation task force is calling for a single entity to manage the city’s indoor facilities.

Recreation co-ordinator C.J. Blye says right now a wide variety of agreements and partnerships exist, and while that’s not a bad thing, it does confuse users.

It’s one of 26 recommendations laid out in the task force report which has been in the works since February.

Others include upgrading the civic arena and connecting the building to the Nelson and District Community Complex, improving accessibility, and creating more multipurpose spaces.

They also think the recreation co-ordinator position should be made permanent and a new recreation council created.

The task force had 25 members from various sports, recreation, and culture groups.
